David Prewitt scored a first-half goal and made the final shot in a shootout to lead Clarkdale High School past visiting Northeast 2-1 in boys soccer action on Friday night.
Adam Box kept the Bulldogs in the game with some great saves in the second half and Clarkdale won the shootout 3-2 to make its record 2-0.
In earlier action, the Lady Trojans scored five first-half goals and went on the beat the Clarkdale girls 7-0.
Both teams had good opportunities to score a goal. Northeast made some good runs on goal early, with David Williams and Jorge Corrals getting off some good shots.
Clarkdale had chances of its own. Justin Culpepper had a shot go high and Prewitt just missed an early goal for the Bulldogs.
Culpepper would later head the ball to Prewitt for a scoring opportunity, but his shot was saved by Northeast keeper Ragan Denham.
The Bulldogs finally opened the scoring when Prewitt settled a ball in the box and ripped a shot past the keeper to make the score 1-0.
Northeast would respond with a goal of its own when Paul Tate dribbled past a couple defenders and crossed the ball to teammate Ryan Sweet, who headed the ball in to tie the score at 1-1.
Northeast dominated most of the second half and had many good scoring chances.
One of those chances came when Sweet's shot was deflected into the crossbar by Box. The rebound came out to Corrals for another shot. His shot hit off the post when it was deflected by Box. The ball bounced out to Williams who also hit the post.
Sweet would hit the crossbar with another shot just minutes later. Clarkdale had a good opportunity when it got a free kick just outside the box. The blast was saved by Denham.
Northeast would get another chance in regulation when Williams hit Tate with a pass to set up a great shot. The shot went just wide. Minutes later Sweet fed Tate with another pass, but Box came charging out to make the last-minute save.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie, but after some discussion the coaches decided to go to a shootout.
Clarkdale would go up 1-0 when Ted Thompson put his shot in the net. Northeast would go up 2-1 a few kicks later when John Richard Smith's shot found the back of the net.
Culpepper would tie the shootout with his next shot. After the Northeast attempt was turned away by Box, Prewitt bounced the ball off the post and in.
The Northeast Lauderdale boys and girls host Northeast Jones on Thursday, while the next match for the Clarkdale boys and girls is Tuesday at home against Newton County.

The Northeast girls got a hat trick from Danielle Smith and two goals from Ivy Rawson and played solid defense to beat the Lady Bulldogs 7-0.
Smith scored the first two goals from Northeast. Shannon Gibbs added a goal later in the first half to make the score 3-0.
The ball got away from the Clarkdale keeper later in the first half and Malissa Brents made a nice left-footed shot. Rawson scored her first goal of the night with about five minutes left in the first half off of a pass from Smith.
Rawson would pay back the favor in the second half when she fed Smith with a nice pass. Smith put the ball away to give her three goals on the night. Rawson would add her second goal of the night late in the second half to make the final score 7-0.
