DECATUR Thirty new students were selected to join the 2001-2002 East Central Community College Warrior Corps this semester.
Members of the corps assist in recruiting and serve as hosts for various campus events. Names of the new members follow, grouped by county.
Leake County: Narasha Phillips, Amy Rawson, Jimmy Hall, Adam Wyatt, Megan Morrison, Nicki Stone and Andrea Walker.
Neshoba County: Bryant Steele, Mary Margaret Irons, April McAdory, Elizabeth Johnson and Melonie Moore.
Newton County: Dinah Howell, Rebecca Germany, Leslie Vance, Misty Keene, Kristin Rice, David Burt, Nathan Stamper and Jake Alexander.
Scott County: Todd Butler and Haley Waggoner.
Winston County: Candice Cooper, Jonathan McMillin, Katy Bourland, Becky Herrington, Cynthia Fleming and Charles Wood.
Clarke County: Tiffany Chancellor.
Jasper County: Jaclyn Evans.
JACKSON Dell Smith of Meridian has joined Sigma Lambda, Beta Beta Beta and Alpha Epsilon Delta honoraries at Millsaps College.
Sigma Lambda is a leadership and service honorary. Members are selected on the basis of character, scholarship and involvement in college and community activities.
Beta Beta Beta is a national honor society for students in the biological sciences.
Alpha Epsilon Delta is a pre-health professional honor society.
Smith, a junior majoring in music with a minor in biology and chemistry, is also a member of the Millsaps Chambers Singers and the Millsaps Chapel Choir. He serves as social chairman for Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
After graduation, Smith plans to pursue a master's degree in business administration and then attend medical school. He is the son of John and Vicki Smith of Meridian.
HATTIESBURG Five students at William Carey College in Meridian have been named president's and dean's list scholars.
Karen Napp, Matthew Smith and Emily Snowden were named to the president's list with perfect 4.0 grade point averages.
Terry Carmichael and Kevin Jackson were named to the dean's list with a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
DECATUR Members of Newton County High School's Beta Club donned orange vests and collected trash along Highway 503 in front of their school one Saturday earlier this semester.
The project was part of the school's participation in the National Adopt-A-Highway Program.
