Resident provides information leading to arrests

Police attribute a major break in a series of armed robberies to an alert civilian.
The information led to the capture and arrests of two men and a teen-ager, who are accused in a number of area armed robberies and kidnappings.
Michael Carr, 21, of 2104 20th St., is charged with five counts of armed robbery and two counts of attempted armed robbery; Phillip Todd, 19, of 2427 Fourth Ave., is charged with six counts of armed robbery, two counts of attempted armed robbery and one count of kidnapping; and Tony Smith, 15, also of 2427 Fourth Ave., is charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of kidnapping.
Smith is being charged as an adult, Harper said.
The charges are related to armed robberies, attempted armed robberies and kidnappings on the following dates.
Aug. 4, 2000, at Northwood Country Club,
Aug. 7, 2000, armed robbery of a food delivery man,
Aug. 11, 2000, armed robbery of a food delivery man,
Aug. 25, 2000, Super 8 Motel,
Oct. 18, 2000, armed robbery of a food delivery man,
Nov. 12, 2000, Northwood Commons,
Nov. 21, 2000, Landmark Apartments, and
Nov. 21, 2000, Best Western Motel.
Meanwhile, police said more suspects are being sought in connection with recent area purse snatchings at local businesses.
Harper said police will give the suspects a few days to turn themselves in, and if they refuse, their pictures and names will be released.
Police have charged Geremy Scott Wilkerson, 18, with two counts of grand larceny in connection with purse snatchings at Winn Dixie on Sept. 20, 2000, and at Wal-Mart on Highway 19 North, on Sept. 28, 2000.
