Nov. 28, 2001
QUITMAN Saying it was time to move on, veteran football coach Charles Faulkner announced his retirement as head football coach and athletic director at Quitman High School.
Faulkner, who has been at Quitman High since 1996, led the Panthers to a 9-3 record this season. The Panthers placed second in the tough Region 5-4A standings and advanced to the second round of the State Football Playoffs.
Faulkner is a member of the Mississippi High School Activities Association's executive board and has been inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches' Hall of Fame.
He started his career at Okolona in the mid-1960s and was head coach from 1966-1969. He then coached a year at Charleston, and then got out of coaching for seven seasons.
Faulkner returned to coaching in 1979, spending one season at Charleston. He then returned to Okolona in 1980 and stayed there until after the 1994 season when he moved to Quitman.
At this point, Faulkner has no plans for the future.
