Seven wounded in shootout

By By Marianne Todd/The Meridian Star
Nov. 24, 2001
Seven people who were shot at a Meridian apartment complex were being treated at area hospitals Friday.
Detective Deano Harper, Meridian Police Department spokesman, said police arrived at Meadowbrook Apartments on Fifth Street about 4 a.m. to find chaos and panic in the parking lot.
Harper said he does not know the extent of the injuries to the seven people, but none appeared to be life-threatening.
The gun shots were exchanged during an apparent argument in the parking lot, he said. So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the shootings, and Harper said he could not comment on whether police had suspects in custody.
Harper said he also could not comment on the guns used but said there were apparently multiple types.
The case is under investigation, but the victims must come forward to file aggravated assault charges if anyone is to be arrested, he said.
He would not say if any of the victims had filed charges as of Friday afternoon or if the argument was drug- or gang-related.
Meanwhile, Harper said officials are reluctant to release more information or the exact locations of Wednesday robberies in which a pizza delivery man and a guest at a South Frontage Road motel were assaulted. The men arrested in connection with those robberies, Phillip Todd, 19, of 2427 Fourth Ave., and Michael Carr, 21, of 2104 20th St., are also suspects in a Wednesday attempted robbery in which a man was accosted at his unnamed Highway 39 North apartment complex.
