Perry Johnson of Lena is the 2001-2002 Darlene Withers Radiologic Technology Scholar at Meridian Community College.
The $1,000 scholarship is funded annually through The MCC Foundation by Kim Monroe of Meridian as a tribute to her former radiologic technology teacher at MCC.
Austin Tew of Pearl is one of Meridian Community College's C.B. "Dough" and Alice Rawlings Memorial Scholarship recipients for 2001-2002.
The MCC Foundation funds the $1,000 scholarship endowment established by Norma Rawlings Webb of Birmingham, Ala., in memory of her parents.
Tew is interested in studying sports medicine.
Cynthia Shelby of Toomsuba is the recipient of the Ann Belvin White Memorial Nursing Scholarship at Meridian Community College.
The $400 scholarship is funded by The MCC Foundation from contributions made by the employees of Laurel Wood.
Shelby is pursuing a degree in nursing.
LIVINGSTON Ashley Michelle Knight of Meridian was awarded a Trustee Scholarship to attend the University of West Alabama. The scholarship was awarded on the basis of academic achievement and leadership potential.
Knight is a senior at Southeast High School. She plans to attend UWA in the fall of 2002.
LIVINGSTON Stacey Carr of Meridian has received the first James and Maria Suttles Scholarship at the University of West Alabama.
The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in history who has a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
Carr's leadership, academic achievement and extracurricular activities were the main criteria considered in selecting her as the recipient.
Karl Brantley, plant manager of U.S. Electrical Motors in Philadelphia, presented a $10,000 check to Phil A. Sutphin, president of East Central Community College. Also pictured is Stacey Hollingsworth, administrative assistant in the Office of Foundation and Alumni Relations. The check for the ECCC Foundation will help fund the U.S. Electrical Motors Scholarship. The scholarship fund totals $15,000. U.S. Electrical Motors plans to endow the scholarship at the $20,000 level to help outstanding children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren of active or retired company employees attend school.
