Lady Wildcats get revenge
The Lady Wildcats soccer team of Meridian High School got a little revenge in the Northwest Rankin Tournament on Thursday when they defeated Vicksburg 1-0.
It was Vicksburg who beat MHS in the state finals last year.
The lone goal was scored by Kelly Brown with nine minutes to play off an assist by Catherine Bryan.
Meridian had seven shots on goal, while Vicksburg had eight. MHS goalie Sarah Denham made three saves.
MHS returns to action against Northwest Rankin in tournament action today.
Quitman takes Tournament loss
The Harrison Central Boys Defeated the Quitman Panthers 41-72. The Panther were led in scoring by Jason Pearson with 14 points and Lorenzo White scored 13. Harrison Central player Fred Kennedy had 16 and Kinard Harris contributed with 13.
The Quitman Classic Finals will be held Saturday. Harrison Central will take on the Meridian High Wildcats at 7:30.
Kate Griffin holds on to win
Kate Griffin ninth grade boys defeated Wayne County 54-48. Jacolby Davis scored 16 for Kate Griffin with help from teammate Chris Harris who scored 11. The Kate Griffin girls were defeated by Wayne County 48-54.
Meridian takes tough loss
Defending Champions Meridian Community College fell to Johnson County Kansas 1-2 in the NJCAA Division 1 Men's National Soccer Tournament. Meridian will play Louisburge at 2:00 Today. College of Dupage defeated Mercer County 2-0 in tournament play. Yavanapai sweep School Craft College 8-0.
Rockets win big on the road
Neshoba Central Defeated Louisville on the road 67-64. The Rockets out scored Louisville 32-13 in the fourth quarter. Tawan Walker led Neshoba Central with 29 points. Desmond James also contributed 19 points for the Rockets. Neshoba Central keeps their undefeated record of 3-0 with wins over Philadelphia and Newton. The 5-1 Neshoba County girls Defeated Louisville 39-38 and will play Monday night at Northeast 6:00
Cougars win over St. Andrews
The 4-1 Newton County Lady Cougars defeated St. Andrews 66-35. Leading scorers for Newton County are Yolanda Johnson 16 points and Phyllis Cole 22 points. The Lady Cougars will not see action until the East Central Community College High School Invitational Tournament on the 26th of this month.
Run For Hope is a success
Over the weekend $8,500 was raised for the Hope Village for Children thanks to the Run For Hope 10K trail run.
Race director Kim Monsour said that almost 140 participated in the event.
