County issues on Hitt's agenda

By By Fredie Carmichael/The Meridian Star
Nov. 15, 2001
With cups of fresh coffee in their hands and conversation on their minds, about 15 Lauderdale County residents talked of roads and economic development Thursday night with their supervisor, Craig Hitt of District 3.
Hitt said the meeting, held at the Center Hill Community Development Club, was reminiscent of past times when county supervisors took time to visit door to door with their constituents. It was Hitt's second such meeting since his election in 1999.
Raymond Creel, a resident of the Pine Springs community who attended the meeting, said while he wishes he could meet with his supervisor on a regular basis, he understands how hard that can be with Hitt's busy schedule.
The residents talked with Hitt mostly about road conditions, fire protection and a wave of residential construction in the county.
Mostly, though, they said they just wanted to stay informed about what's going on in their community.
Hitt said he got the idea of holding a community meeting before he was elected to office.
