Several businesses near and in the Bonita Lakes Mall went without power Tuesday night after an underground Mississippi Power Co. equipment failure.
Company spokesman Kurt Brautigam said Pier 1 Imports and Citizens National Bank lost power at about 5 p.m. A failed underground electrical switch caused the power outage.
At about 6 p.m., power company crews shut down power to J.C. Penney, OfficeMax, Old Navy and Shoe Carnival so they could re-route electric service and repair the switch.
Power was restored to J.C. Penney, OfficeMax, Old Navy and Shoe Carnival in less than 30 minutes, Brautigam said, and to Pier 1 and Citizens National Bank at about 10 p.m.
Power company crews are investigating what caused the switch failure, Brautigam said, adding that the switch has been repaired.
