ZELMA LAFAYE JOYNER PROVEAUX
Zelma Lafaye Joyner Proveaux of Meridian died Nov. 9, 2001, in her home. She was born in Little Rock, now known as Union, on Oct. 30, 1912, to Joseph Ab Nathaniel Joyner and Mica Evalenia Sweeney. She was one of 13 children, whom are now all deceased, except one sister.
Mrs. Proveaux married Joel Eddie Harwell on Nov. 24, 1931. He was a career Navy man and they lived in many places with their only child Eddie Faye. After retiring they returned to Mississippi but continued to travel. They settled back in Meridian and started Harwell Real Estate Company. In 1968 they moved to Florida where Mr. Harwell died in November. Zelma remained in Florida working in real estate and teaching real estate at community colleges.
In 1976 she married Elbert F. Proveaux, a retired Merchant Marine. Mr. Proveaux died in 1998 after 22 happy years of marriage.
She considered herself blessed to have had two wonderful husbands. Mrs. Proveaux loved being a member of such a large family and considered her nieces and nephews her children along with her only child. Through the years they had been a delight to her. She brought her only grandchild, Tracy Lafaye Hough Dismukes, to Meridian frequently as a child. Tracy loved the fact that she had more than 400 cousins. Tracy preceded her grandmother in death in 1991.
Mrs. Proveaux was a member of many professional organizations but retained her membership in the Eastern Star until her death.
She is survived by a daughter, Eddie H. Hough and a son-in-law, John B. Hough of Roswell, Ga.; and a sister, Naomi J. Smythe of Largo, Fla.
The family requests memorials be made to Hometown Hospice Inc., 8366 Highway 19 North, Collinsville, MS 39325.
Burial arrangements will be private. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
ANNA FISK
Retired elementary school teacher
PHILADELPHIA Memorial services for Anna Fisk will be held today at 10 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel.
Mrs. Fisk, 87, of Philadelphia, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Leake Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Survivors include a brother, Freeling H. Clower of Philadelphia; a sister, Edith Larson of Warrenton, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Fisk; and a brother, Bill Clower.
MONIQUE L. EAKINS
Hardees, Queen City Nursing Home employee
ENTERPRISE Services for Monique L. Eakins will be held today at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church with the Rev. Irvin King officiating. Burial will be in Pack Cemetery with Enterprise Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Miss Eakins was born Dec. 28, 1978, in Detroit, Michigan to Mrs. Corene Weatherspoon and Mr. Ronald Johnson. She departed from this life Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in Lauderdale County. Miss Eakins, 22, resided in Meridian. Monique, as she was affectionately called, united with Elizabeth United Methodist Church at the age of six.
Monique was a 1997 graduate of Northeast High School. She furthered her education at Meridian Community College. She was employed at Hardees and Queen City Nursing Home.
Monique leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Angel Dixona Eakins; her mother, Corene Weatherspoon and her husband, Edward; her father, Ronald Johnson; two sisters, Latonya Renee Crawford and Janika Nicole Eakins; her grandfather, Willie J. Eakins Sr.; her grandmother, Catherina Johnson; two stepsisters, Catina Bailey and Tamiko Weatherspoon; two stepbrothers, Edward III and Patrick Weatherspoon; one Godson, Dominick LaShun Morris; her guardian parents, Lenora and Arthur Heidelberg; four aunts, Shirley Clark and her husband, R.L., Beatrice Week, Sarah Gibson and her husband, Mason and Inez Scruggs and her husband, Otis; eight uncles, Willie Eakins Jr., and his wife, Ida, Charlie, Tommy Gene and Walter Lee Eakins, Willie Johnson, Richard Eakins and his wife, Vera, Eugene Eakins and his wife, Gloria and Herbert S. Weatherspoon; three very special cousins, Lakeisha Ann Eakins, Felicia O. Week and Robert Earl Eakins. A very special friend, John Ellis and a host of other relatives and special friends.
