Meridian Community College wins twice
BIRMINGHAM All five starters scored in double figures to lead the visiting Lady Eagles of Meridian Community College to an 84-65 win over Lawson State on Wednesday night.
The MCC men, behind the 22 points of Sammie Cole, rolled to a 71-49 win. The women and men are both now 3-0 on the season.
Former Meridian High School standout Cantea Brown and sophomore post player Felicia Washington scored 17 points each for the MCC women, while Genice Terry hit for 16 and Monique Horner and Tijwana Collins scored 11 each.
The MCC Lady Eagles travel to Kentucky this weekend to take part in the St. Catharine Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The Meridian men led 39-24 at the half. Robert Ivy scored 15 points for the Eagles, while Justin Turner added nine.
The Eagles play host to Southern Union at the Ivy Sports Center at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Lamar tumbles in Oak Hill tournament
WEST POINT The Lady Raiders ran into a buzz saw on Wednesday afternoon, as host Oak Hill easily defeated Lamar 47-15 in the semifinals of the Oak Hill Girls Invitational.
April Rodgers led Lamar with four points, while Ashley Holcombe paced Oak Hill with 14. Lamar will play in a consolation game tonight at 7:45.
In junior high acton, the Lady Raiders lost to Oak Hill 34-27. Cheryl Luquire led Lamar with 15 points. The Lady Raiders play Kemper today at 5:15 in the consolation bracket of the tournament.

Noxubee, Winston take tourney wins
The Lady Tigers of Noxubee County High School used 11 points from Alexis Cooper to take a 56-27 first-round win over B.L. Moor in the Noxubee County Tournament.
The Lady Patriots of Winston Academy used a 24-point effort from Katie Rose White and 14 points from Hope Estes to beat host East Holmes 61-49 in the East Holmes Academy Girls Invitational being played in West.

Lady Rebels drop exhibition contest
OXFORD Shelley Hammonds scored a game-high 22 points, and Carly Wilson added 19 points to lead the Australian Institute of Sport to an 86-79 victory over Ole Miss in women's exhibition play on Wednesday night at Tad Smith Coliseum. The visitors hit 6-of-6 from the charity stripe in the final minute of play to secure the win.
Ole Miss senior Sherika Wright led four players in double figures with 15 points. Freshman Carletta Brown notched 14 points, senior Von Kirk put in 13 points and freshman Ally Kelly added 11.
Ole Miss returns to action on Sunday when it hosts the Houston Jaguars in an exhibition game at 2 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.

UWA advances to GSC volleyball tourney
LIVINGSTON, Ala. For the first time in six years, the University of West Alabama volleyball team will be making the trip to the Gulf South Conference Tournament. Head coach Philip Bryant leads the Tigers to the post season in his second year at the helm, after making a spirited run at it a year ago.
The road to the title will be difficult, as UWA begins play against the home-standing Western Division Champions from Henderson State. The Tigers and the Lady Reddies will face off in round one of the GSC Tournament on Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. with the winner to advance to a night game against the winner of the Montevallo/Harding match.
