NEL cross-country team ready for state 4A meet

CLINTON The Northeast Lauderdale High School cross-country team has its sites set on another strong finish in the MHSAA Class 4A State Cross-Country meet to be held here at Choctaw Trails on Saturday.
The Trojans and Lady Trojans both captured the Division 4-4A title last weekend on their home course, as they easily downed New Hope High School.
The boys won 23-34, while the girls took a 21-36 win.
NEL's David young recorded a time of 19:56 to win the boys event on the 3.1 meter course, while Melissa Brents took the girls title on the two-mile course with a time of 13-15.
Finishing third on the boy side for Northeast was Jorge Corral (20:23), while Jonathan Powe (20:56) was fifth, Alex Curry (21:04) was sixth and Ian Fulton (21:36) took eighth. Finishing ninth was Daniel Huntley (22:19), while Coleman Hobgood's 25:39 was good for 13th.
On the girls side, April Lussier turned in a solid 15-minute flat time to take second,while Daphne Cornwell was fourth (15:57), Desiree Scarborough was sixth (16:16) and Kyla Scarborough (16:34) finished eighth. Alyse Hobgood (16:48) claimed ninth, while Kim Robinson's 19:35 was good for a 12th-place finish.
