District showdown looms for Southeast

By By Josh Taylor/The Meridian Star
Oct. 10, 2001
Friday night prep football fans will surely be paying attention to one score as Newton County travels to Southeast Lauderdale for a district 5-3A showdown.
The Tigers stand at 3-2 overall while Newton County carries a perfect 6-0 record.
Newton County is almost assured a spot in the playoffs while Southeast faces possibly having to win out their next four district games for a playoff berth.
The Tigers had an open date last week and haven't been on the game field in two weeks.
The Tigers have made some adjustments in anticipation of a strong Newton County offensive attack.
Although Newton County is widely considered one of the best teams in the state Southeast is not intimidated.
