Meridian Structure sweeps Rocket City Invitational

The Meridian Structure under 17 girls select team, sponsored by Structural Steel, swept the Rocket City Invitational Soccer Tournament in Huntsville, Ala. over the weekend.
Meridian faced the Lady Kicks from Huntsville, beating them 3-0. Kortney Harris scored two goals and Danielle Smith scored one in a cold and windy Saturday morning game.
In the second game of the tournament Meridian took on the Decatur Predators of Decatur, Ala. and came away with a 5-0 win. Harris scored 4 goals and Sara Michelle Nicholson added one more for good measure.
In their third game, Structure played the Huntsville Shockers and shocked them with a 4-1 win by Meridian. Danielle Smith scored two goals with Kortney Harris and Sara Michelle Nicholson adding 1 each.
The Meridian Structure played a evenly matched team from Rankin United Football Club from Rankin County for the championship. The game came down to the wire and was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time, forcing the champion to be decided in overtime. Meridian Structure started out strong in overtime and came out on top with Danielle Smith scoring the winning goal. Smith had two goals and Harris had 1 in the final game of the tournament.
Sarah Denham played awesome in the goal for the Structure's tournament, win with two shutouts and making numerous great saves in goal.
Playing great for Structure and making it a team effort tournament win was; Melissa Brents, Kelly Brown, Catherine Bryan, Sarah King, Ivy Rawson, Rebekah Robinson, Brittany Sherrill, Lisa Swartzfager, Erin Ware and Raven Williams.
The manager of Meridian Structure is Harold Harris. The under 17 Structure was only formed in August. The Rocket City Tournament was their second tournament to participate in.
