Meridian is now home to one of 63 new FedEx Home Delivery terminals across the United States.
The terminals opened last week by FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., in an attempt to expand services. FedEx Ground launched the home delivery service in March 2000; 85 home delivery services opened in February.
FedEx Home Delivery is dedicated solely to residential delivery, including Saturday and evening deliveries. The home delivery terminal in Meridian is at 71 Highway 19 North, Suite 6; it employs five people.
Meridian's terminal opened Sept. 25, the same day as terminals in Hattiesburg, Starkville and Tupelo.
FedEx said that the home delivery service was created in response to shipper demands for a better ground delivery solution for the residential market.
The release also said the home delivery expansion is timed to help catalog and online retailers serve consumers this holiday season.
