Forest hosting Rotary Classic Horse Show
The Rotary Classic Horse Show will be held today at the Forest/Scott County Coliseum, 151 Erle Johnston Drive in Forest.

Arts commission to hold meeting in Meridian
The Mississippi Arts Commission board will hold its quarterly business meeting Tuesday in Meridian. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. at Union Station.
The MAC serves more than 1.8 million Mississippians through grants supporting programs that enhance Mississippi communities, assist artists and arts organizations, promote the arts in education and celebrate Mississippi's cultural heritage.
Sale to benefit Hilltop Homes

Clarke County hosts annual forestry festival
The 12th Annual Forestry and Wildlife Festival will be Oct. 6 at Archusa Creek Water Park in Quitman. The event will feature live entertainment, taxidermy displays, an archery competition and tours of the lake and park.

Alzheimer's Walk set for Oct. 6

St. Joseph hosts OctoberFest
St. Joseph Catholic Church will host an OctoberFest and Family Fun Day on Oct. 6. The event starts at 11 a.m. on the church grounds at the corner of 19th Street and 18th Avenue.
Activities include basketball, volleyball, sack races, horseshoes and tug-of-war. An early-bird rummage sale begins at 8 a.m. Barbecue chicken and fish plates will be on sale for $5.

Benefit for firefighters families set for Oct. 6
Meridian firefighters and Lauderdale County volunteer firefighters will hold a benefit for the families of firefighters killed at the World Trade Center.
The event will be held Oct. 6, from 10:30 a.m. -2 p.m., at the Frank Cochran Center. Barbecue plates will be sold for $6 and will include pork, potato salad and baked beans. Tickets are available from any State Farm Agent.
Oakland Heights UMC hosts Fall Fest
Oakland Heights United Methodist Church will hold its annual Fall Fest Oct. 5-6. Crafts will be on sale Oct. 5, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday will also include a bake sale and rummage sale. Make-A-Wish meets in Meridian
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi will hold its monthly Meridian volunteer luncheon on Oct. 11, from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m., at Rush Medical Group. The luncheon will be held in the 6th floor boardroom.
Anyone interested in becoming a new Make-A-Wish volunteer may attend an orientation session at 11:30 a.m.

Calvary Christian School hosts Fall Festival
Calvary Christian School will hold its Fall Festival Oct. 12 from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. The family fun night will include face painting, a cake walk, a dunking booth and many other games. Fried catfish plates will be on sale; prices are $6.50 for adults and $4.50 for children 12 and under.

Salvation Army holds Christmas registration
The Salvation Army will be taking applications for needy families seeking Christmas assistance. Applications will be taken Oct. 15-20, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Those applying must bring the following:
Photo identification;
Identification for everyone in the household. Adults need driver's license, picture ID or Social Security card. Children need birth certificate or Medicaid card and Social Security card;
Proof of residence lease, utility bill or rent receipt; and
Proof of income check subs, Social Security, food stamps, child support, unemployment or retirement.
Applicants must apply in person at the Salvation Army office, 117 Sixth Ave. For information, call 483-6156.
IRS, state offer free seminar
Tax preparers and others interested in electronically filed federal and state income tax returns in 2002 may attend a free seminar Oct. 11 at Meridian Community College's Webb Hall. The seminar is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and the Mississippi State Tax Commission.

St. Patrick hosts annual fall festival
St. Patrick School will host its annual Fall Carnival and Spaghetti Dinner Oct. 27 in the Family Life Center, next to the school at 2700 Davis St. in Meridian.
The event will be from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Admission is $1 per person, with a maximum of $5 per family. The carnival will feature food, lots of fun games, a costume contest, a haunted house and much more.
Spaghetti dinners, at $5 a plate, will be served from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Take-outs are available, and orders of 10 or more plates can be delivered.
