This year's United Way "Pacesetter" companies have exceeded expectations, kicking off the 2001 fund-raising campaign with a healthy 25 percent contribution toward an $800,000 goal.
Pacesetter businesses began collecting employee donations last month as a prelude to the official fund-raising campaign, which began Thursday and will run through Thanksgiving. A total of $205,000 in contributions was reported to United Way.
He said he is confident area residents will contribute to the nonprofit organization. United Way of East Mississippi supports 18 agencies, including youth programs, services for the elderly and disaster relief efforts.
