Investigators from State Auditor Phil Bryant's office are reviewing the Meridian Police Department's investigation of alleged thefts at the police station's front desk.
Acting Police Chief Benny DuBose confirmed Wednesday that he has met with a representative from the auditor's office.
The alleged thefts occurred between February and May of this year and involved a police officer and a civilian employee. The total amount of money missing was estimated at several thousand dollars. DuBose said in July that suspicion was aroused when bank deposits came up short.
The first phase of the MPD's investigation, an Internal Affairs investigation affecting employee status, is complete and both employees have been fired.
The second phase, a criminal investigation under the direction of MPD Capt. Betty Evans, is still in progress.
