After meeting early today with the 186th Air Refueling Wing of the Mississippi Air National Guard, U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering was expected to discuss national security at a town meeting later this morning.
Pickering said he planned to provide constituents at the town meeting with information about charitable organizations helping victims in New York City and Washington. The meeting was expected to start at 10 a.m. at Union Station.
The congressman also planned to discuss what people could expect at airports and other travel centers.
Pickering said he and other members of Congress are taking time this week to hold public meetings in their districts. Congress is off today in observance of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year.
Pickering said he wanted to meet with National Guard troops at Key Field to show support for their mission "and to make sure I know everything they need to carry out their mission."
The 186th Refueling Wing was dispatched the day the terrorist attacked to assist fighter jets in and around Texas.
