NE Lady Trojans up record to 16-1 with sweep of EHS

Even with a week off, the defense for the Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans softball team did not miss a beat on Saturday.
Coach Chris Harper's team displayed the heady glove-work in taking two games from visiting Enterprise High School 9-0 and 5-4 here at Northeast Park.
The double-header sweep moves sixth ranked Northeast to 16-1 on the season.
Part of the Lady Trojans' defensive deftness came on a rare triple play in the first-inning of game two. With one run already in and runners on first and second, Enterprise's Brittany Speed sent a dying fly ball into shallow left-center.
Northeast outfielder Katie Bergin got to the ball by making a diving, knee-first grab. Bergin then popped up and threw over to second base to Lauren Webb.
The triple play snuffed out a potential big rally by Enterprise. Northeast then continued its momentum with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Bergin and Webb each led off with hits. A hard-roller by G.A. Watkins was enough to score Bergin, and when the ball was booted, Webb came around for a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Trojans added three more runs in the fourth when Jana Olezak, Jennifer Bristow and Amber Gray all singled and scored in the inning. Olezak came in off a high throw to the plate while Bristow scored on a grounder from Capri Norris. Blair Rawson made it 5-1 when she singled to right to score Gray.
Enterprise got a run back in the sixth when Kacey Jimmerson came around on a hit by Smith.
In the seventh, Enterprise put together a two-out rally when Jimmerson and Chasity Stingley both hit and scored. For Stingley, it was her third hit of the game. Smith knocked in one of the runs and Stingley scored off an outfield error. Parker then lined out to first to end the game.
Both teams finished with 12 hits. Stingley had a triple and double to go with her seventh inning single. Jimmerson, Ashley Mathis, Smith and Speed all had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
Webb went 3-for-3 to lead to the Lady Trojans. Gray, Ransom and Watkins had two hits.
For Harper, the Lady Trojans will have to be sharp in all phases when they go to arch-rival and fourth ranked West Lauderdale on Monday.

Katie Bergin scored three times off three base hits to pace Northeast Lauderdale to a 9-0 win in game one of Saturday's double-header.
Lauren Webb had a RBI triple in the third then added a walk and run scored in a four-run fifth. Tara Hull led off the big rally in the fifth with a double. She later scored along with Bergin on a two-run single by Raliegh Odom.
Jana Olezak capped the outburst with a two-run single that scored Odom and G.A. Watkins for a 9-0 lead.
Odom and Watkins each finished with two hits and three RBIs. Hull had two hits.
Enterprise was limited to seven hits by pitcher Blair Rawson. Charley Speed led the Lady Bulldogs with a triple and single.
