Lamar defense dominates as Raiders win first

MACON The Lamar School defense held Central Academy to minus yards on offense and without a first down for the first three quarters of the game on Friday night, on the way to a 34-6 victory.
Lamar was flagged for 10 penalties for 75 yards, while fumbling the ball eight times and losing it four of them.
But the despite the struggles at times, the Raiders came out on top and moved their record to 1-1 on the year.
But up next is defending MPSA Class A State Champion Heidelberg Academy who comes to Grey Cobb Field at Lamar on Friday night.
Lamar scored on its first possession against the Vikings, who fell to 0-2 with the loss.
The Raiders drove the ball from their own 49 to the end zone in eight plays, with the touchdown coming on a nice catch by Zach Moore on a pass from Drew Moffett from 24-yards out. The extra point snap was muffed, leaving Lamar with a 6-0 lead.
Central got a scoring opportunity late in the first quarter, when the Vikings recovered a Lamar fumble on a punt return at the Raiders' 19-yard line. But the stout LHS defense turned the Vikes away.
Lamar then went on a 10-play, 71-yard drive that saw Moffett score on a quarterback sneak with 10:03 to play in the half. Dylan Anderson scored the two-point conversion to make it 14-0.
Blake Olmstead picked off a Central Academy pass midway of the second quarter to set up Lamar's third and final touchdown of the first half.
Anderson got the score on a 30-yard touchdown run down the right sideline off of the option. The extra point attempt was wide right.
The Raiders scored on their second possession of the second half, moving 49 yards on five plays, with Moffett scoring on a 45-yard run off the option on fourth-and-six with 4:51 to play in the third. Tommy Edgerton kicked the extra point to make it 27-0.
Lamar's last points of the night came on its next possession as Rush scored on a 24-yard run with 1:08 left in the third quarter. Edgerton's kick made it 24-0.
Central got its first first down of the night on its next possession. The Vikings finally scored with 2:14 left when Craig Giesbrecht Tyler Huerkamp with a 14-yard touchdown pass on a slant pattern. The try for two failed.
The Raiders were able to get outside on Central Academy at times, and broke several for long plays.
Anderson finished the night with 142 yards on 12 carries, while quarterback Drew Moffett and fullback Lane Rush also broke a couple of long runs.
The Raiders picked up 10 first downs and 331 yards of total offense to just 71 yards and four first downs for the Vikings.
Moffett rushed for 69 yards on six carries, while Cameron Coleman had nine carries for 49 yards.
Bob Dinsmore led CA with 43 yards on 18 attempts.
