The Green Bay Packers waived a dozen players on Sunday, including Jason Franklin, the former quarterback for the Meridian High School Wildcats.
Franklin was the starter for the Wildcats in 1995 and 1996, leading them to the State Playoffs in both seasons. He played two years at East Mississippi Community College where he was converted to a pass receiver.
Then he transferred to Delta State University where he helped lead the Statesmen to the National Championship in Division II.
The Packers cut five other rookies and first-year players: offensive linemen Marques McFadden and Tom Schau, linebacker London Dunlap and defensive backs Damien Demps and Sam Young.
