The Newton County Lady Cougars banged out 15 hits en-route to a 7-2 victory over the homestanding Lady Bulldogs of Clarkdale on Tuesday night.
NCHS exploded for six runs in the top of the first inning to begin the onslaught. Kristin Chaney, Krissy Harris and Domonique Mapp belted consecutive doubles that put the first two runs on the score board.
Kristal Burton scored the sixth and final run of the inning on a single by Shelly Ferguson.
Trailing 6-0, CHS wasn't ready to throw in the towel just yet. JorD'an Orr lead off the bottom of the first by tagging a long fly ball over the center field fence to make in 6-1, NCHS. The homerun was Orr's third of the early season.
That was the only bright spot for the Lady Dog's on the night though, as it was only able to come up with three more hits.
CHS added another run in the third while the Lady Cougars added one in the fourth for good measure.
Chaney led the way at the plate for Newton County with a 4-for-4 hitting performance that included a double and three singles. Burton and Suzanne Chaney went 2-for-3 with two singles, while Ferguson was 2-for-4 with a couple of singles.
Orr led CHS, accounting for half of the team's hit total. Orr was 2-for-3 with homerun and single.
Suzanne Chaney got the win on the mound, while Kaylea Thrash fell to (2-3) on the year with the loss.
