MPD officer released from hospital

Officer Harvey W. McKinion was released from the hospital Saturday, according to Lt. Wade Johnson of the Meridian Police Department.
McKinion was hospitalized Friday, after he and MPD Sgt. Alexander Spears were allegedly assaulted by two Louisiana men they were arresting for underage drinking at the Best Western Motel on South Frontage Road.
Gareth Terhune and Byron Bourg Jr., both of Houma, La., were charged with simple assault on a police officer, a felony offense.
Terhune was charged with two counts for allegedly assaulting both officers. His bond was set at $20,000. Bourg was charged with assaulting McKinion. His bond was set at $15,000.
Both men remained in jail Saturday night.
