SCOOBA Michael Collins, 18, of Meridian, is the recipient of an athletic scholarship to play soccer at East Mississippi Community College. He is also a walk-on for the EMCC baseball team.
Collins is a graduate of Meridian High School and is the son of Eugene and Vanessa Collins.
STARKVILLE Susan Davenport of Meridian is participating in the cooperative education program at Mississippi State University.
Davenport, who is working toward a degree in chemical engineering, is completing her third work-semester with Engelhard Corp. in Jackson. The cooperative education program lets students receive practical experience in their chosen field of study while attending school.
WAYNESVILLE, Mo. Army Pfc. Dionne O. Stewart graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood.
During the training, Stewart received instruction in drill and
ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military
justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history and traditions.
Stewart is the niece of Gloria J. McCoy of Meridian, Miss., and the daughter of Violet Stewart, Dekalb, Miss.
COLUMBIA, S.C. Army National Guard Pvt. Wesley G. Spencer graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson.
During the training, Spencer received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions.
Spencer is the son of Joe Spencer and the stepson of Sandra Spencer of Meridian, Miss.
He is a student at Meridian High School.
HATTIESBURG The following University of Southern Mississippi students were candidates for degrees Friday, Aug. 3, during 2001 summer commencement exercises:
