Meridian 13-year-olds win opener

WILSON, N.C. The North Meridian 13-year-old All-Stars opened play in the Babe Ruth World Series Sunday with a 10-0 victory over Indian Mills, N.J.
The game had been delayed a day because of bad weather.
Meridian scored six in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth.
During the third inning, Meridian bagged out five hits while Indian Mills committed two costly errors that resulted in Meridian runs. Clark Bullock scored off a fielders choice by Michael Pogue; and Cory Griffin singled in another run.
Rightfielder Ryan Bennett, shortstop Drew Snider and first baseman Cory Griffin all notched two hits to lead Meridian. Snider had a double and Griffin was credited with three RBI.
Tyler McMullen was the winning pitcher. McMullen allowed only one hit and two walks while fanning four batters.
