OBITUARIES FOR SATURDAY, AUG. 18, 2001

PHILADELPHIA Services for John T. "Sam" Long Sr. will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Dan Howard officiating. Burial will be in Cedarlawn Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Long, 92, of Vicksburg, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Jackson. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Ted Long of Vicksburg and John T. "Sammy" Long Jr. of Pearl; two sisters, Earline Eubanks and Christine Higginbotham and three brothers, Lewis Long, Harold Long and Jay Long, all of Philadelphia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly Long.
Visitation will be be at 9 a.m. before services.
The family requests memorials be made to the DAV, P.O. Box 1579, Jackson, MS 39215.
CAROLYN NADINE HAMPTON
Services for Carolyn Nadine Hampton will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Preston, with the Rev. Chester Rush officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James L. Osby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hampton, 50, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Riley Hospital.
Visitation will be today from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. at E.E. McDonald Funeral Chapel.

NEWTON Graveside services for Nancy Katherine Williams will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Newton Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Frank Harmon officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Williams, 70, of Shreveport, La., formerly of Newton, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at Spring Lake Retirement Center in Shreveport. She was a member of the Christian Church and wrote a weekly column for the Newton Record. She also wrote a book titled "History of Newton County." She was active in many civic clubs.
Survivors include a brother, James Dent Williams Jr. of Shreveport; a sister, Maide Bouchery of France; three nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Dent and Camille Jones Williams.
Visitation will be Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

QUITMAN Services for Josie Britton will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at DeSoto United Methodist Church with the Revs. D.P. "Doc" Williamson and Gerald Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Miss Britton, 90, of Quitman, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, in her home. She attended DeSoto School graduating her last year at Shubuta Cons. School. She attended Draughons Business College in Jackson, Meridian Junior College, Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Miss Josie served three terms as Chancery clerk for Clarke County and also worked in the Chancery clerk's office as deputy clerk for 18 years. Thereafter she served as a paralegal and worked for attorneys and the oil industry. She was an active member of DeSoto United Methodist Church and also active in other churches. She was "everybody's" friend.
Survivors include two nieces, Jo Ann Smith of Jackson and Linda Britton Moore; and a sister-in-law, Annie Kate Britton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas and Fannie Britton.
Visitation will be Sunday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home and 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Graveside services for Randy Glen Holder will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Golden Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Travis McManus and Capt. Joseph Mur officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holder, 37, of Meridian, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, in his home.
Survivors include three sisters, Joann Butchee and Lisa Smith, both of Meridian, Debbie Carey of Decatur; two brothers, Carl D. Holder and Jerry Holder, both of Meridian.
Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements were incomplete at Barham Funeral Home for Fannie Kirksey, 91, of Meridian, who died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
