Tourism invites you to Be Tourists in Their Own Town'
Lauderdale County Tourism is inviting area residents to be tourists in their own town with a city tour Aug. 23. The tourism office will provide a half-day guided tour on Meridian's trolley car at 8:30 a.m.
Stops will include Rose Hill Cemetery, Merrehope, Jimmie Rodgers Museum, Dentzel Carousel, E.F. Young Jr. Manufacturing Co. and the Peavey Museum.
Limited space is available and reservations must be made by Monday. The trolley will leave the tourism office at 212 21st Ave.

Workshop targets home buyers
Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) an award-winning program of the Institute for Disability Studies of the University of Southern Mississippi will sponsor a one-day home-buyer education workshop Aug. 25, for residents in Lauderdale and surrounding counties with and without disabilities.
The workshop will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at MIDD, at 1405 College Drive in Meridian.

Benefit for Moore family
A benefit for Stacy Savell Moore's family will be at 5 p.m. Aug. 25, at the Longino Senior Citizen Building. Gospel music, benefit auction, cake walk and concessions will be provided.

Union to host Country Day'
Union's 25th annual Country Day will be Aug. 25, in downtown Union. The Antique Car Parade will precede the program.
A talent show will take place at 7 p.m. Friday in Union City Park. Acts must be country or gospel in origin and a pay a $10 entry fee.
Owners of antiques cars can preregister by calling Union Chamber of Commerce office at 774-9586.
Philadelphia to host Autumnfest
Autumnfest is set for Sept. 8, around the courthouse in downtown Philadelphia. It begins at 9 a.m., with entertainment throughout the day.
Autumnfest is an open-air festival that features events for children and adults. It showcases local and regional performing and visual arts talent.

L.A.W.S. to hold classes
Lauderdale Association Women Shooters will have a fall 2001 handgun class from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 11, 13 and 18. A morning class is set for Sept. 15.
NRA certified instructors teach the classroom and range sessions. The class is limited to 20 students and costs $40.

Central UM Church sponsoring divorce workshop
Central United Methodist Church will host an divorce recovery workshop on Tuesday nights from Sept. 11 through Oct. 30. The class is from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m.
The class is $30 and includes a study book and resources. Several guest speakers will present programs.

Pecan Festival set for September
The Mississippi Pecan Festival is currently taking applications for arts and craft booths for this years festival. The 15th Annual Pecan Festival will be Sept. 29-30, in Richton.
