Excellence in education

Carlo Thomas of Meridian is participating in the cooperative education Program at Mississippi State University.
The program lets students receive practical experience in their chosen field of study while receiving their college education. Thomas is the son of Philip and Stella Thomas.
After completing the third work semester with Master-Bilt Products in New Albany, Thomas will return to MSU to work on completing a degree in mechanical engineering.
Meredith Vance of Eupora will begin her second year of study on a bachelor's degree in religious education at Meridian Community College. She will receive the Bill and Gay Whitworth Scholarship.
The scholarship is funded annually by the Whitworths through the MCC Foundation. Vance is a member of the MCC tennis team, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Baptist Student Union.
ELLISVILLE The following area students are candidates for summer graduation at Jones County Junior College:
James T. Kelley of Meridian; Betty J. Barnett, Kimberly L. Jenkins and Lefanett Thigpen, all of Heidelberg; Dana F. Rayner of Laurel; Jason T. Cannon and Charles D. Green, both of Louin; Amy E. Arthur and Jamie W. Feasel, both of Union; Patricia A. Johnson and Kimberly D. Miller, both of Quitman; Ashley M. McKenzie of Shubuta; Abigail S. Hayes of Buckatuna; Jillian C. Baygents of Shubuta; Jessica L. Smith of Stateline and Tina R. Lewis of Waynesboro.
STARKVILLE Three area residents are among 47 students serving in the collegiate support group of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association.
The MSU students work as a liaison and host at campus events for returning graduates, prospective students and campus visitors. The three students are:
Wilson A. Shirley, of Meridian, a senior microbiology major, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky J. Shirley; Rebecca N. Wade, of Newton, a junior political science major, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wade; Kenneth R. Thomas, of Toomsuba, a senior chemical engineering major, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth O. Thomas.
