Hynson wins U.S. Amateur Sectional

Austin Hynson of Mobile, Ala., and Jonathan Dismuke of Calhoun City earned berths in the U.S. Amateur later this year in sectional play at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club near Philadelphia last week.
Hynson shot a 70-70 for a four-under par 140, while Dismuke fired a 74-70-144.
First alternate is Chris Speight of Blytheville, Ark., with a 145. Second alternate is Neal Williams of Monroe, La., with a 148. Patrick Spayer of Coppell, Texas, shot a 149 and is the third alternate.

Frankie Wagner Benefit set for Sept. 21: A benefit tournament for Frankie Wagner will be held on Sept. 21 at Briarwood Country Club.
Entry fee for the four-person scramble is $400 per team or $100 per person. Entry fee includes dinner and the opportunity for door prizes.
The first 25 teams to enter will be accepted.
Checks may be made payable to: Frankie Wagner Cancer Fund and mailed to Briarwood Country Club, Box 3250, Meridian, MS 39303 or turned in at the pro shop at Briarwood. Donations can be made at any Citizens National Bank.

Just around the corner: The annual Philadelphia Country Club Four-Ball Tournament is slated for Friday-Sunday. For more information, contact PCC pro Michael Novorot at 601-656-8512.
Philadelphia Country Club will also have a one-person scramble on Sept. 1.
There will be a three-person scramble at the Lakeview Golf Course on Aug. 25.
The proceeds from the tournament will help the Clarkdale High School cheerleaders to raise money for their trip to Nationals in Dallas later this year.
The charge is $90 per team, which will include lunch and green fees. A hole-in-one on No. 7 will net a $300 gift certificate at Meridian Tire and Brake.
Prizes will be given.

Labor Day weekend
The Labor Day weekend will be a big one in Meridian as Briarwood Country Club will host the Harry Lackey Labor Day Four-Ball Tournament and Northwood Country Club will host its annual Labor Day Invitational. Both tournaments will run Sept. 1-3, which could be interesting with Ole Miss and Southern Mississippi playing football games at home on Sept. 1 and Mississippi State playing in Starkville on Sept. 3.
In the Harry Lackey Tournament, the entry fee is $200 per team for both members and non-members. The event will be flighted after the Sept. 1 round. The deadline to enter is Aug. 24. For more information, contact Briarwood pro Rob McGraw at 681-6185.

Newton County Club will host a two-person select tournament on Sept. 2-3.
