Hats off to volunteers for Day of Caring'

Many hundreds of Meridian residents, with the full approval of the companies for which they work, put in thousands of hours as volunteers to support various charitable organizations. A spirit of giving back to the community has been an under-publicized segment of life in our town for years.
Last week, in that spirit, a dozen agencies supported at least in part by the United Way of East Mississippi got some special attention, courtesy of 140 volunteers from area companies Many of these same people will direct or participate in the United Way's major fund-raising campaign later this year.
During this "Day of Caring," volunteers reached out to accomplish various tasks. The manpower  and womanpower  offered on this single day was phenomenal.
Volunteers spread out across the community, doing work at Camp Meridale, the Girl Scout camp site; Camp Binachi, the Boy Scouts camp site; the Boys and Girls Club of Lauderdale County; the Salvation Army; Youth Excitement Team; Wesley House; and around the United Way's new offices.
Meridian, Lauderdale County and East Mississippi are better places to live because these fine people committed their time and effort to the Day of Caring. Our hat's off to them.
