Meridian Dixie Majors win World Series title

Meridian's Dixie Majors won their World Series championship Thursday at North Charleston, S.C., with a 7-5 10-inning win over North Charleston.
Phillip Garrett snapped a 5-5 stalemate with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th that plated Matt Minchew with the go-ahead run.
Todd Doolittle then silenced the home team in the bottom of the 10th for the win, striking out the side. Doolittle tossed the first five innings before giving way to Matt Creighton, who tossed the next three frames.
Josh Snider went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Meridian. He also made a leaping catch at second base with the bases loaded to end a North Charleston threat.
Mann Dubose went 1-for-3 and drew three intentional walks.
Brad McKee went 2-for-6 and turned a catch to deep center field into a double play in the bottom of the sixth to snuff a bases-loaded threat by the home team.
Shay Spencer had one hit and drew three walks. Jonathan Stevens also had one hit, a double.
The team is expected to return to Meridian around 8 p.m. today.
North Charleston defeated Texas 7-2 in Thursday's early game.
