Mayor John Robert Smith said he is talking to six candidates about filling two expired terms on the Meridian Planning Commission.
Smith would not name the candidates.
The Meridian Planning Commission is a nine-member board that advises the Meridian City Council on property and zoning issues. Commissioners serve five-year terms.
Commissioners Bill Phillips and Evelyn Polk have been serving on the board even though their terms have long expired. Phillips' term officially ended in April 2000, while Polk's term expired in April 2001.
Smith said there was no urgency to fill the two commission slots because members can serve until a replacement has been nominated by the mayor and confirmed by the council.
However, Smith admitted it is often difficult to find qualified candidates to serve on various city boards or commissions.
Smith said he will be giving council members a list of candidates within the next few weeks for their review before he makes any formal nominations.
