State, locals do well at prep national rodeo

Mississippi and the local area in general, had a very good showing in the National High School Finals Rodeo that wrapped up Sunday in Springfield, Ill.
Mississippi recorded 2050.95 points, good enough for 12th place among the 39 states and three countries represented. Utah claimed the crown with 4748.09 points
Daniel Napp of Enterprise, finished 11th overall in steer wrestling with a total time of 21.641. Buster Holland of Kansas took the title with a time of 12.94.
Napp's younger brother, Josh, the Mississippi High School steer wrestling champion, didn't qualify for the finals.
Tyler Pearson of Louisville, finished ninth in boys cutting with 424 points. Clayton Penrod of Utah totaled 440 points to win the crown.
Crawford's Haley Thompson finished fourth in the All-Around Cow Girls category with 560 points. Thompson finished fourth in pole bending with 63.449, while she was also eighth in barrel racing with a total time of 53.775.
Marcy Cooper of Raymond was second in pole bending with 62.202, while Mendenhall's Leslie Chance finished third in pole bending with 63.409.
Heather Weidel of Nebraska captured the pole bending crown with a total time of 20.098.
Brandi Bates of Morton finished 12th in girls cutting with 425 points. Ashley Smith of Idaho won the title with 440 points.
