Capital murder case gets grand jury review

A Newton County grand jury is expected to hear a capital murder case today involving the June 27 shooting death of Charlie Brackeen of Union.
Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight said he could not comment on the case because of a gag order.
Brackeen was found dead in his home on Highway 15 about two miles south of Union. He had been shot three times in the face with a .22 caliber handgun, Knight said before the gag order was issued. Brackeen was found on the floor in his living room near a sliding glass door.
Three days later, Antonio Boyd, 22, of Philadelphia was arrested and charged with capital murder. Knight said at the time that at least 10 guns had been taken from Brackeen's home and six of them were found in Boyd's possession at the time of his arrest.
Cephus Terry, 18, also of Philadelphia, was charged with murder on July 3.
Knight said the grand jury will hear 25 cases including two grand larceny cases, two aggravated assault cases, several DUI cases, possession of marijuana, auto burglary, two forgery cases, receiving stolen property, embezzlement, two false pretense cases and several drug-related cases.
