David L. Gordon of Meridian was recently promoted to the rank of technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Gordon is stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.
He is the son of Rush and Ruth Gordon and is a graduate of Meridian High School. He joined the service in 1976.
Gordon's two brothers also served in the U.S. Air Force and achieved the rank of technical sergeant.
United Methodist Senior Services of Mississippi Inc. was a winner in the 10th annual National Mature Media Awards Program.
Senior Services' entry for their Aldersgate Retirement Community Brochure, located in Meridian, received a Bronze Award for the Brochure/Booklet Division.
The program, presented by the Mature Market Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for the senior market, recognizes the nation's finest advertising, marketing and education materials designed and produced for older adults.
When Hinds Community College was conducting its capital campaign to help rebuild Cain Hall, Glen Deweese of Meridian, long-time Hinds Community College Development Foundation Board member and its 1993 Alumnus of the Year, received a visit from two people to whom he could not say "no."
As a result of that visit, Deweese committed to a $100,000 donation to The Campaign for Hinds.
Deweese, chairman and CEO of Super Stop! convenience stores and a former president pro tem of the Mississippi Senate, started out in business with a neighborhood supermarket in West Jackson.
The Duncan M. Gray Episcopal Camp and Conference Center recently named JeanAnn Bull as marketing director to head the Conference Center's marketing, sales and public relations department.
JeanAnn Bull, an honor graduate of Mississippi College, holds a bachelor's degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations.
Established in 1991, the Gray Center is a nonprofit operation of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi. The Center's ministry objective is to provide a place for both personal and spiritual growth and renewal for all guests.
The Mississippi Association of County Administrators/Comptrollers met in Biloxi recently and inducted new officers for the coming year.
Patty Greer Hammons, comptroller for Hancock County, was elected secretary/treasurer; Charles Williams, county administrator for Jones County, will serve as president; and Barbara Ravenhorst, purchase clerk and comptroller of Jasper County, was elected vice-president.
Jeremy R. Tinsley has joined the U.S. Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.
The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education.
Tinsley will report to Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., for basic training. He is the son of Charlene R. and Johnny P. Tinsley of Bailey.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Marcus D. Campbell recently returned from three months at sea while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
He is the son of Edwina G. Norman of Meridian. Campbell is a 1989 graduate of Meridian High School and joined the Navy in 1992.
Navy Fireman Gene K. Roberts, son of Debra E. and Jimmy D. Roberts of Shubuta, recently visited Melbourne, Australia, during a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Benfold.
Roberts joined the Navy in 1999.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Rodney Creer recently visited Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, during a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Mitscher.
He is a 1990 graduate of West Kemper High School in DeKalb.
