Meridian's Dixie Majors are on the verge of claiming a state championship.
Meridian broke a scoreless tie with a 10-run sixth inning to defeat Laurel/Jones County 10-0 Wednesday night in Taylorsville to advance to tonight's 5 p.m. championship game.
Meridian will face Benton, which must defeat Meridian twice to win the state title. Meridian knocked off Benton 4-2 Tuesday night.
Quitman's Matt Creighton went six innings, fanning 11 batters, while allowing just two hits and walking two.
Matt Minchew highlighted the sixth frame with a three-run homer, while Josh Snider went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of singles. Chase Spencer was 3-for-3, including a couple of singles and a double while driving in three runs.
Meridian is expected to send Todd Doolittle to the mound tonight. Doolittle struck out 14 batters in Monday's 7-1 win over Laurel/Jones County.
In other local action, the Crestwood Meridian Dizzy Dean 9&10-year-olds after claiming the district and state titles will advance to this weekend's World Series in Hattiesburg.
The team is coached by Derrick Roberts, Kenneth Glenn, Reginald Rhone and Andrew Sims.
