Southern Choctaw duo in all-star games

By By Marty Stamper/The Meridian Star

Mississippi isn't the only state having all-star games being played this week.
Alabama is doing the same thing with two area athletes being picked to play in the softball games in the fifth-annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week at Montgomery, Ala.
Unlike Mississippi where only graduating seniors are eligible to play, Alabama's all-star games are for both graduating seniors and upcoming seniors.
Both the fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball series will be played today with single games at 10:30 a.m. followed by a doubleheader at 6 p.m.
Members of the South slow-pitch softball team include infielder Cassie Franks and outfielder Tara Pascley, both of Southern Choctaw High School.
No area players were selected for the fast-pitch games.
Sports Week also features all-star games in volleyball, girls' and boys' basketball, football, and baseball.
No area players were selected for Monday's all-star baseball doubleheader either.
Also included in the week's activities are clinics and sessions for coaches, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches, and officials. A product exposition and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week.
