Michael Federico has been named Meridian Community College's head baseball coach. He has been assistant coach for two years.
The MCC board approved the move Tuesday.
Federico said he plans to continue the success of the baseball program, and is bringing Chad Cailett from Millsaps on board as assistant baseball coach.
Beginning with the 2002-2003 school year, MCC will renew its membership in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges athletics. Federico said recruiting will change, but the college will still be able to recruit the whole state in a limited capacity.
Elliott said Federico is a young, energetic coach who has paid his dues and has reached his time to be a head coach.
Federico played high school baseball in Slidell, La., and then played at the University of Southern Mississippi where he was also a graduate assistant coach.
