Tim Edmonds says he'd like to get to a point some day in the near future where kids in his TNT Boxing Club have somewhere other than his attic from which to work.
That's one of the goals behind the youth boxing tournament Edmonds is putting on Saturday in Meridian: To raise funds for equipment and additional space.
"We're a non-profit organization and we're hoping to add equipment and get these kids somewhere else to box," Edmonds said. "I've got parents who want me to train their kids … kids who want to get involved, and right now, we just don't have the space."
Edmonds and his family operate TNT Boxing Club, and they'll host a meet Saturday at the Weschler Center. Approximately 10 clubs from Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi including the Meridian Boxing Club have been invited.
"I'm not sure how many we'll have, but there'll be a lot of kids there," Edmonds said.
Activities are scheduled to get under way at 2 p.m., and Edmonds said he hopes his group is finished up by approximately 5:30.
His son, 9-year-old Tyi Edmonds, has a 7-0 mark on the junior ranks and recently won a Gulf States title, but he'll have to miss the fun on Saturday because he's involved in an all-star baseball tournament.
"I know there's a lot of other things going on," Tim Edmonds said. "But I think we'll have a big turnout."
Admission Saturday is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 12-and-under.
