Tourism Bureau hosts discussion
The Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau is launching a new program to help event coordinators attract more visitors to Meridian. A roundtable discussion will be held today at Hampton Inn, Room 131, to help prioritize specific areas of interest.
Anyone involved in organizing or coordinating events in the area is invited to attend.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Hampton Inn is located at 103 U.S. Highway 11/80. For more information, call Dawn Chappell at 482-8001.
Health fair set for Wednesday
Greater Meridian Health Clinic will celebrate 15 years of service in Lauderdale, Kemper, Noxubee and Winston counties Wednesday with a health fair at 2701 Davis St. in Meridian. The fair will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m.
Free blood pressure, cholesterol and vision screenings will be offered, in addition to dental assessments and family counseling.
More than a dozen medical agencies and related organizations will be represented. Activities for children including a dunking booth and space jump. For more information, call 693-0018.
Make-A-Wish meets in Meridian
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi will hold a Meridian Volunteer Luncheon Thursday, from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m., at Highland Baptist Church.
Anyone interested in becoming a Make-A-Wish volunteer may attend an orientation session from 11:15 a.m.-11:45 a.m., and then join other volunteers at the luncheon. There is no charge to attend. The church is located at 3400 27th St.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses and enriches the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Martin VFD holds fund-raiser
The Martin Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fund-raiser July 14, beginning at 10 a.m. Volunteers will be selling Boston butt plates for $6 each. All money raised will help defray the cost of Allen Herrington's cancer treatments.

International adoption meeting scheduled
Children of the World, a non-profit international adoption and relief agency, will host a free public information meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the activities building at Central United Methodist Church. The church is located at 1004 23rd Ave. in Meridian.
International Program Director Pat Lee will describe the international adoption process and discuss the children available in foreign countries. Materials and information are free.

Benefit to be held for MSA
Choctaw Maid volunteers will be cooking and serving chicken plates on July 14, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Highland Park swimming pool to help raise money for the Meridian Swim Association. Plates will be sold for $4.50 and include a smoked leg quarter, beans, chips and drink.
Sumter Theatre hosts workshop
This is the last call for Sumter Theatre Workshop's stagecraft camp for non-performers. Junior high and high school students are invited to join the West Alabama Director of Theatre, James McGahey, July 16-20.
Campers will learn the basics of scenery construction and lighting design as they help build the set for Sumter Theatre Workshop's upcoming production of "Jerry's Girls." The camp will be held in the scenery shop backstage at Bibb-Graves Auditorium at the University of West Alabama. Sessions run from 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
