Baseball
John Moss Fall Baseball: registration for ages 14-17 is going on now until Aug. 18. Registration forms may be picked up at John Moss Baseball Field until July 2, or at Judge Little. The $35 registration fee is due upon sign-up. Games will be played on Monday and Tuesday night beginning Aug. 27 thru Oct. 30. For more information, contact Johnny Warren at 482-0778.
Madison-Ridgeland Baseball Tournament: will be held July 5-8 at Hite Wolcott Park in Ridgeland. This tournament is seven year old Coach pitch. Shirley A. Walker : Basketball Camp at Alcorn State University will be held July 9-11 at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Mid America Youth Basketball National Tournament: for 4th-12th grade boys and girls will be held Aug. 3-5 in Wichita, KS. Over 300 teams from the across the U.S. are expected to participate. For more information, call 316-284-0354 or www.mayb.com.
Ten Star Basketball Camp: Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All-Star summer basketball camp. Applications are open to boys ages 8-19 and girls ages 10-19. Players are selected by invitation only. Past participants include Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley, Antawn Jamison, Christian Laettner, Tom Gugliotta and Trajan Langdon. Camps located throughout the nation. College scholarships are possible. For an evaluation form, call (704)-568-6801 by July 15.
Cheerleading
ECCC Camp: The East Central Community College cheerleaders will sponsor their cheerleader camp July 9-11. Junior high school and high school squads may attend. The camp will be held daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building. Cost is $60 per cheerleader. Lunch will be provided. Cycling
Biker Sunday 2001: Motorcycle rally will be held July 15 at Cornerstone Church beginning at 9 a.m. For more information, contact Joe Deen at 482-7305.
Football
ECCC 7-on-7 Team Passing Camp: will be held July 12 on the Warrior football field. Cost is $15 per player, which includes insurance, lunch and camp t-shirt. Officiating
Public high school: softball and football officials are required to attend a registration and pay dues for the upcoming season at a meeting July 9th at the Russ Collins Vo-tech Center. The softball meeting is set for 5:30 p.m., while the football meeting is 6:30 p.m. Former officials and anyone interested in officiating are urged to attend. Soccer
The Meridian Girls: U-17 select soccer team tryouts will be held July 12 at 6 p.m. and July 14 at 8 a.m. at the Northeast Park Soccer fields. For more information, contact Harold Harris at 693-0272 (office) or 483-0883 (home).
MYSO Fall Registration: The Meridian Youth Soccer Organization is holding fall registration July 1 through Aug. 15 for boys and girls ages 4-18. Registration forms may be picked up at Mr. Rodger's Donuts. For more information, contact Bruce Reau at 581-3023.
Softball
Junior Olympics: Girls Slow Pitch ASA State Tournament applications are now available. The MASA will hold the 10-under tournament in Meridian July 6-7 at Northeast Softball Complex at Northeast Park. The winner advances to the national tournament in Gadsden, Ala., Aug. 9-12. For more information, contact Ricky or Lynn Roberson at 482-4691.
Fast-pitch Clinic/League: There will be a girls' fast-pitch softball instructional league and clinic put on by the North Meridian Optimist Girls Softball Organization beginning July 9. All interested girls who were age 9, 10, 11 or 12 on Jan. 1, 2001 are eligible to play. League will play for 2-3 weeks as time permits. Southeast Athletic Boosters: Softball Bash co-ed tournament will be held July 14 at the Southeast Lauderdale High School baseball field. Entry fee is $100. Trophies will be awarded for first thru third place. For more information, contact Ryan Miller at 485-3878.
USSSA Class D: State tournament will be held Aug. 11 at the Laurel Sportsplex. USSSA Core 47 Worth balls will be used only. For more information, call Larry Green at 601-428-8851.
Coca Cola Classic: Men's tournament will be held July 7 at the Sammie Davidson Complex. Four home run and out rules. Entry fee is $125. For more information, call V.L. Mott at 482-3639 or Alvin Alexander at 986-8594.
Swimming
Meridian Swim Association: is offering Meridian Swim School for beginner swimmers of all ages. Two weeks sessions beginning July 9 will introduce children to the pool and swimming.
