MPD officer, front desk employee suspended

By By Suzanne Monk/The Meridian Star
July 3, 2001
Acting Chief Benny DuBose confirmed Monday that a Meridian police officer and a civilian employee have been suspended amid allegations they stole money received at the police department's front desk.
The alleged thefts occurred between February and May 2001.
DuBose said suspicion was aroused when bank deposits came up short. Cash and checks were missing from the deposits of more than one of the department's three shifts, but the two suspended employees both worked on the same shift.
DuBose declined to identify the two employees, or to speculate on what charges might be filed.
DuBose said the suspensions occurred shortly after Memorial Day, and the investigation is expected to be completed within two weeks.
