ECCC hires Cheatham as coach

East Central Community College has hired Philadelphia High School head coach Steve Cheatham, according to an ECCC press release Saturday.
Cheatham, who guided the Tornados to an 10-2 record and Class 2A playoff berth in 2000, will coach linebackers and special teams, according to ECCC head coach Terry Underwood.
"We are are excited about having Coach Cheatham join our staff," said Underwood. "He is an excellent coach and very experienced. He is truly an outstanding person and coach and will be a great asset to our football program and to East Central Community College."
Cheatham, who compiled a 38-11-1 record in four seasons at Philadelphia, began his coaching career in 1978 at his high school alma mater, Neshoba Central High School, where he served as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator until 1993.
He left PHS to become a graduate assistant at Clemson University from 1993-96. He coach two seasons at Dothan (Alabama) High School before becoming head coach of the Tornados in 1997.
