Meridian plans July 4 celebration
The Meridian Symphony Orchestra will present the Cellular South Pops Concert July 4, at 8 p.m. The free concert will be held at Bonita Lakes Park, and will feature patriotic music, the 1812 Overture with live cannon fire, an NAS Meridian flyover and a fireworks display sponsored by the City of Meridian. The fireworks will begin at 9 p.m.

Archusa to present fireworks display
The staff at Archusa Creek Water Park in Quitman will hold their Second Annual Fireworks Display on July 3, at 9 p.m. Admission is $1 per person. For more information, call Quitman City Hall at 776-3728.
Kemper to hold memorial service
Kemper County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Veterans Memorial Service July 4 on the courthouse square in DeKalb. Entertainment will begin at 4 p.m., with a wreath-laying ceremony and flyover by NAS Meridian pilots at 5 p.m.
The speakers will be U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss., and Capt. William Carrico, commanding officer of NAS Meridian.
Fireworks will begin at dusk at the baseball field at the corner of Highway 16 and Highway 39 in DeKalb in memory of Rosemary Johnson, who started the tradition 21 years ago. The tradition is continued now by her daughters Elizabeth Johnson and Becky Calvert.
Seniors invited to public hearing
The East Central Planning and Development District/Area Agency on Aging will hold a public hearing about aging programs Thursday at 10 a.m., in the auditorium of the Newton City Hall.
The purpose of this hearing is to inform people about senior programs and services available in Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Smith counties.
The goals and objectives for fiscal year 2002 will be discussed and an update of current activities will be presented.
