Police chief's last day July 20

Gregg Lewis' last day at the Meridian Police Department will be July 20 his seventh anniversary as police chief.
Maureen Lofton, Meridian's assistant for governmental affairs, said Friday that date was requested by Lewis.
Lewis announced his retirement at a press conference last week, citing the "heavy toll" being police chief had taken on him personally.
Lewis was on vacation this week. In his absence, Assistant Police Chief Benny DuBose is serving as acting chief.
No announcement has been made about when city officials will begin their search for Lewis' replacement.
