Meridian out of type O blood
United Blood Services has issued a critical appeal for type O blood. As of Monday morning, there was no type O positive or O negative in the inventory.
Officials say the high usage of type O blood by local hospitals and the fact that no blood drives were held over the Father's Day weekend has created this critical situation.
If you have type O blood and haven't donated in the past 56 days, the staff at UBS asks that you please take time to do so.
United Blood Services is located at 1115 25th Ave. in Meridian. For more information, call 482-2482.
Ham operators hold field day
Meridian Amateur Radio operators hope to contact thousands of other hams throughout North America in the nation's largest ham radio on-air event, "Field Day," to be held Saturday and Sunday at Bonita Lakes Pavilion #2.
The 24-hour exercise starts at noon Saturday.
Licensed amateur radio operators in Lauderdale and Clarke counties, and anyone wanting to learn about this important means of emergency communications, are invited to attend. Field Day is a competition as well as a "trial run" for emergency communication skills used during disaster situations.
For information, call Darrell Hover at 626-0053 or Michael Harbour at 483-0786.
