By Staff
Rachel Adelle Vise and George Bailey Adams were united in marriage Saturday, June 2, 2001, at 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Meridian. The Revs. William Lester Newsome and Robert Harold Horel conducted the ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Dr. and Mrs. Richard Martin Vise, Cynthia Bailey Adams of Jackson and James Noel Adams of Brandon.
The bride is the granddaughter of Elizabeth Prater Brookshire and the late Newton Duncan Brookshire Jr. and Dr. and Mrs. Guy Thompson Vise Sr., all of Meridian.
The bridegroom is the grandson of Evelyn Williams Bailey of Jackson and the late George Curtis Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. Lemeul Garner Adams of Summit.
Music was provided by Miriam Chesney, organist; Barry Germany, pianist; and Jerald Bailey, trumpeter.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of silk organza. Rows of Venise lace and soutache braid encircled the strapless bodice closed in the back with covered buttons. From the empire waistline fell the A-line organza skirt with Venise lace trellising down the front of the gown onto the hemline and continuing around the edge of the chapel-length train.
Her veil of illusion fell from a tiara of porcelain flowers. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of yellow mini calla lilies, white and yellow roses and white stock.
Mailande Elizabeth Vise of Birmingham, Ala., attended her sister as maid of honor. Other attendants were Cynthia Elizabeth Adams of Jackson, sister of the bridegroom, Melissa Caroline Craig and Charlotte Kelley Gage, both of Birmingham, Kristen Daniel Dabbs of Oxford, Casey Bobitt Malone and Kelly Elizabeth Shannon, both of Memphis, and Katherine Harper Holley of Jackson.
Serving as program attendants and rice girls were Jeane Carroll Brookshire of Dothan, Ala., Martha Ann Allen, Rachel Annette Vise and Mailande Alexandra Vise, all of Jackson and cousins of the bride.
James Noel Adams Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y., served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were the bride's brothers, Richard Martin Vise Jr. of Auburn, Ala. and Duncan Brookshire Vise of Charlotte, N.C.; John Patrick Flanagan of Meridian, Michael James Holley, Phillip Martin Levy and David Michael Simmons, all of Jackson, and William Louis Lavin of Rising Fawn, Ga.
