Tourneys abound on area courses

By Staff
June 4, 2001
This column is about upcoming golf tournaments in the area over the next few weeks. I'll be running a golf column fairly regularly during the summer months.
Those who would like to have their tournaments, holes-in-one, club champions, or other golf information listed in this space should fax that info to 601-485-1275 attention Marty Stamper.
On Saturday, June 9, the Ninth-Annual Newton Fire Department Tournament is scheduled for Newton Country Club. The two-person scramble is a 27-hole event. Tee time is 9:30 a.m. and the entry fee is $30 per person which includes lunch and mulligans. To enter, contact Joel Nelson at 683-3101 or 683-3770, Buster Bounds at 683-2372 or 683-2431, or Andy Gardner at 683-2790.
Also on Saturday, Philadelphia Country Club will play host to a one man/one woman tournament. For more information, contact PCC pro Michael Novorot at 656-8512.
This weekend, June 9-10, Union Golf Club will be hosting a two-man select tournament. Entry fee is $25 per person which includes a mulligan. For more information, contact Otha Kennedy at 774-5734.
Union Golf Club will then host a one-day, 27-hole tournament for seniors (age 55 and up) on June 12. Entry fee is $25 per person. For more information, contact Otha Kennedy at 774-5734.
Lakeview Golf Course will host the Second-Annual Metro Ambulance Tournament on June 16. The format is a three-person scramble and the entry fee is $35 per person. Benefits go to the St. Jude Children's Hospital. Contact Clark Wilson at 483-2260.
Decatur County Club will play host to an unusual tournament on June 16 when a Moonlight Two-Person Select is on tap. Entry fee is $50 per team which includes a meal, mulligans, and one night ball. For more information, contact Jay Bowen at 635-5186 or 635-2111 ext. 243.
The late night theme continues on June 22 at Philadelphia Country Club with a two-person scramble night tournament. Contact PCC club pro Michael Novorot at 656-8512.
Briarwood Country Club will be hosting the Buddy McGhee six-person scramble to benefit the American Cancer Society on June 23-24. Entry fee is $300 per team and teams must be entered by June 21. Golfers should form their own teams. To register, call the golf shop at 681-6185.
Decatur Country Club will give the area's top golfers a chance to show their skills on June 23-24 when it hosts the East Central Mississippi Individual Tournament. That's one player playing one ball. No partner, no team. In other words, real golf, except you won't have to go through the Supreme Court to ride in a cart. For more information, contact Jay Bowen at 635-5186 or 635-2111 ext. 243.
