LIVING MONUMENT Frank Foster VFW Post #3996 held a tree-planting ceremony Wednesday in Velma Young Park in honor of the nation's war veterans.
The sapling, donated by Wal-Mart, was grown from the seeds of a green ash that grows outside Dwight D. Eisenhower's boyhood home in Denison, Texas.
Pictured from left are: William "Flash" Gordon, senior vice commander of the VFW post; Robert E. Lee, post trustee; Ward 2 Councilman Mary A.B. Perry; James E. Slayton, state VFW commander and Ward 4 Councilman Jesse Palmer. More than 2,000 VFW posts held similar ceremonies nationwide.
